ALERT: To better serve our visitors, effective Friday 17 November 2017, visiting sign-ups begin at 9:00 a.m. on the day before the visit.
For example, for any Saturday visit, sign up after 9:00 a.m. on Friday. For any Sunday visit, sign up after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

General Guidelines

ALL JAIL and SFGH WARD VISITING IS SCHEDULED ONLINE HERE

County Jail #2, 4, and 5 facilitate visiting on Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays.

A visitor is responsible for familiarizing him or herself with the visiting hours and procedure of each facility. A visitor is also responsible for following all visiting rules and regulations listed below. All visitors are responsible for complying with any and all directions received from Sheriff’s personnel and / or their designees.

  • Penal Code 4571 prohibits convicted felons who have served time in any California state prison from entering jail grounds without written permission of the facility commander (or designee)
  • All visitors shall comply with any order or direction given by Sheriff’s personnel
  • All visitors entering or leaving jail property are subject to search
  • All visitors shall be required to present an unexpired government-issued picture identification to Sheriff staff. Refusal or inability to present requested I.D. may be grounds for denying the visit. Questions regarding the acceptability of an I.D. will be directed to the facility Watch Commander
  • No person under 18 years of age will be allowed to visit without a parent or guardian present. The parent or guardian must remain with their minor during the entire visit. Visitors with disruptive or uncontrolled minors are subject to cancellation of their visit. A maximum of three people (minor/infant occupy 1 spot each) are allowed per visit.
  • Any visitor who brings firearms, explosives, weapons, alcoholic beverages or controlled substance, including marijuana into the jail, shall be arrested.
  • Any visitor under the influence of drugs or alcohol will have their visit cancelled and be subject to arrest.
  • No food or drinks are permitted in the visiting areas.
  • No electronic devices (cell phone, recording device, mp3 players, etc.) are allowed in the visiting areas.
  • A visitor may not give anything to an inmate or receive anything from an inmate without the approval of the facility Watch Commander.
  • Visitors will not be allowed to revisit an inmate whom they have previously visited that day.
  • Visitors are not allowed to bring anything into the visiting area except keys and or I.D.. Visitors with an infant will be allowed to bring one blanket and a bottle or pacifier. All other personal items must be left outside the facility or stored in the lockers located in the public lobby. The San Francisco Sheriff’s Department is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Visiting Dress Code Guidelines

Visitors must be fully and appropriately dressed with shoes. The following are NOT allowed:

  • Head Coverings (Exceptions will be made for religious head wear)
  • Transparent, spaghetti strap, strapless, halter, bare midriff, tank or “sling shorts” shirts or tops
  • Mini-skirt or shorts (must be as long as the bottom of the fingertips when arms are placed at a person’s side
  • Gang related clothing or accessories
  • Attire displaying obscene or offensive language or drawings
  • Orange, red, blue or green clothing that resembles custody issued inmate clothing
  • Clothing worn in a way that undergarments are intentionally revealed

Visitors who violate the listed restrictions will be given an opportunity to correct the problem; however visiting time will not be extended. The Facility Watch Commander will have the final authority regarding appropriateness of an individual’s attire.

There are a limited number of lockers available in the lobby to secure your personal items. Visitors must be present in the lobby 10 minutes prior to their appointment. Inmates in F-pod, the Intake and Classification Pod (ICP) are ineligible for visits (inmate workers in F-pod are the only exception).

(AM) MORNING SLOTS: 9:20-9:50, 10:00-10:30, and 10:40-11:10
(PM) AFTERNOON SLOTS: 12:20-12:50pm, 1:00-1:30pm, and 1:40-2:10pm

Saturday and Holidays:

(AM) MORNING: Pods A, B and C: Inmates in General Population
(PM) AFTERNOON: Pods D, E and Inmate Workers: Inmates in General Population Inmates in Administrative Segregation: 8:00-8:30 am, 8:40-9:10 am

Sundays:

(AM) MORNING: Pods D, E and Inmate Workers in F-Pod: Inmates in General Population
(PM) AFTERNOON: Pods A, B, and C: Inmates in General Population are eligible during the following time periods: 9:20-9:50, 10:00- Inmates in Administrative Segregation: 8:00-8:30 am, 8:40-9:10 am

Weekends and Holidays

Weekend and Holiday visiting is reserved by appointment only.

All visits for CJ#5 are scheduled via an online appointment system CLICK FOR ACCESS.

Visitors must be present at the main gate 30 minutes prior to their appointment to be escorted to the facilities main lobby. There are small lockers available in the lobby to secure your personal items.

FREE BART SHUTTLE TO SAN BRUNO

The City and County of San Francisco and the Sheriff’s Department offer a free shuttle service to/from the San Bruno complex on all Saturday, Sunday visiting and during Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year’s Holiday whether or not they fall on a Saturday or Sunday. The shuttle is wheelchair accessible.

The shuttle service is not responsible for late arrival which may result in a loss of time and /or visit.
